food vlog time: boring toast or terrible tea

Vlog time! Been a while since I've done a video post so I thought I'd give a food-related vlog a whirl. Today we're discussing creative ways to brush up commonplace foods (like toast, sweet potatoes, smoothies) as well as the one thing you absolutely must not do when making green tea! Watch on, and come chat fun breakfasts and horrible cups of tea in the comments!

  1. Sweet potatoes are one of my favorites, and I'm not particularly exploratory with those foods that I already adore. But, a new recipe I recently tried—and loved—were baked sweet potatoes with a lentil, kale, and tomato filling. So yummy. And I love substituting sweet potatoes for regular potatoes whenever I can, in corn chowder, in dinner rolls, and with eggs, kale, and onions for breakfast.

I usually eat toast one of three ways: buttered, covered in homemade jam, or spread with natural peanut butter and banana slices. I don't often eat savory toast, but it's definitely something I aspire to do.

And, quite honestly, as long as it's strong and caffeinated, I don't typically take too much care in the way my tea is made. I should probably work on that.

  2. I so enjoyed this vlog. It's always fun to see you in action. :)

Something I've started doing with sweet potatoes: dice one up and bake it. While it's baking, sauté ginger and garlic, add a can of diced tomatoes and a generous helping of PB and simmer until the sauce is nice and thick. Throw in the sweet potatoes and serve over rice. Another variation of this would be to just bake a sweet potato whole and pour the sauce over it. So yummy.

I am so with you on proper methods of tea brewing. I enjoy a good green tea, but black in the morning and pecan rooibus in the evening are my go-tos. My favorite twist on black tea: throw 3 thin slices of ginger into the pot or thermos and leave in the ginger even when you've removed the tea. This is especially yummy with a splash of milk.
