I Spy: Style Alert

I know we're not even out of August yet, but I'm so so ready for fall styles. It's not that I don't enjoy summer clothes...but autumn is such a rich time, and I can afford more layering because I'm not constantly feeling volcanic. Besides, there is nothing better than a change of season, even if we're transitioning from fall to winter or winter to spring. Let's just say I'm always ready to try something new. Still, autumn is consistently MY SEASON. I bought a Wedgewood blue blazer on sale at Anthropologie and am now sulking at it until the weather starts to cooperate. Some of you saw my corresponding style-inspired art on Instagram and kind of get the (accurate) impression that mentally, I'm already rolling in the colorful leaves. So to help pass the time, I drew up a list of the things I hope to add to my wardrobe this fall.

#1: Leopard-print flats - I looked for a good pair all last season and never found one that struck my fancy. So they're definitely tops on my list this fall. Leopard's totally a neutral. Totally.
#2: Copper nail-polish - At Ulta Beauty a few weeks ago, I was almost overcome by a small row of gorgeous, autumnal polishes including a foxy-colored copper. As soon as I'm allowed to paint my nails such a roan color, I'm buying a bottle.
#3: A duffle-coat - I need a casual, warm, weather-wise coat this year. My woolen pea-coat did all right last winter, but I would like something more all-purpose and I think duffle coats are adorable. That's why.
#4: Black jeans - Somehow I've done life by squeaking by in my dark navy jeans, but I want a true black this season.
#5: Dark red pants - A chinos-style pair would be wonderful, but I wouldn't be opposed to corduroy with a tiny rib.
#6: Pearl studs - I don't have any and it has become increasingly inconvenient.
#7: A purple hat - Haven't firmly decided if I'd rather a woolen tam or a slouchy beret or beanie, but I am stuck on the color: rich plum, which is a classic. More than one friend have suggested I make purple (of various shades) my signature color. I'm feeling this out little by little.

  1. What fun! I love my leopard flats and have worn them immensely both in summer, autumn and spring - definitely a staple.

Purple should definitely be your color, especially as a green-eyed girl. Take it and run with it! ;)

...I might be persuaded to join in the fun on my blog.

  2. I would love a trench coat, preferably red or navy blue, not-too-skinny jeans with a hem I can turn up which I can wear with, several Autumn/Winter fun but practical tunics. :) And more hats would be awesome. Love your list! I had a pair of red corduroy pants a few winters ago. I really liked them!

  3. I love your art style, and I am waiting eagerly for fall too, I can't wait for the pumpkin flavored coffee, boots, sweaters, and a chance to get to wear this adorable Military jacket I found.

    1. Military Jacket? Sounds like a really cool addition to your wardrobe. C'mon, cold weather!

  4. This fall, I would dearly love to get a woolen pea-coat-sort-of-thing, although I'm not sure it'll happen. If I did get one, it would be pine green, I think, because I really love pine green and hunter-green and all those sorts of colors.

I'm also really looking forward to wearing a new corduroy skirt I found this summer--dark reddish-purple with flowers. It looks SO cool but I can't wear it yet :)

    1. Oooo, a dark green peacoat would be such a pretty shade for it!

  5. Pearl studs are about the most versatile earring there is. They're probably what I wear the most (though I got a pear of pearl drop earrings to wear to a concert last year that have almost become my favorites!).

I never thought I would like deep purple, but over the last year or two I've discovered that it suits my coloring, and have grown to love it. I've made it one of the staple colors of my fall wardrobe - I have a corduroy jacket and some favorite scarves and earrings in purple.

I've been working on sifting my wardrobe down to just the things I'll really wear, so my only real necessity this fall is jeans. Why is it so hard to find such a simple item that fits properly?! :)

    1. Elisabeth: isn't it funny when a color surprises you? I love that feeling.
